2005 Walk 'n' Wag Was a Fun Day!

Saturday, October 1st was a beautiful, sunny day for our 5th Annual Walk ‘n’ Wag all breed dog walk fundraiser, which was held at Borderland State Park.  This is one of two major events we have each year, the other is the auction held in the Spring.   Thank you to all the volunteers who came early to help set up.  We also had a lot of people helping throughout the day and we want to thank them also.  It takes many volunteers for an event like this and we could not have done it without you.

The group walk was at 11 am.  At Noon,  John from K-9 Performance Plus

(http://www.k-9performance.com) gave a very interesting and exciting obedience demo.  First he started with regular obedience and then went into more advanced work, such as protection, etc.  We’d like to thank John and his group.

Next we had our Rescue Parade – dogs that have been placed through gsrne are invited to be in the parade.  They received “gsrne rescue dog” medallions.  We always look forward to seeing the dogs and hearing about their life now with their new family.

We appreciate Officer Tim Keefe of the Dover NH Police Department taking time out of his busy schedule for us – it was a long drive from NH.   K9 Norman was awesome finding drugs in and around the car, and then he let everyone pat him!   I hope everyone had a chance to stop by Pam Devlin's "working dog"  table to check out info and read about K9 Norman.  Click on the link “Working Dogs” on our home page to find out more info on the Working Dog Program.

We had the Canine Good Citizen test again this year – thanks to John Johnston from K-9 Performance Plus and his volunteers.  The dogs that passed are listed here.  Congratulations!

  • Diana Gordon and Schafer

  • Mark Zola and Nala

If you passed and are not listed here, we’d love to include you -- please email us and we will add your name.

There were plenty of booths surrounding our activity area.  We also had nice items for sale at our own ‘gsrne’ table and a raffle table with a wonderful mixture of items to choose from – dvd player, gsrne tote bag, gsd sweatshirt, just to name a few!   Thank you to everyone who donated raffle items (see our dog walk page for info on both the raffle items and vendors).

Greyhound Placement Service of New Hampshire ( http://www.mv.com/org/gps ) was our food vendor again and we enjoyed their delicious food.

Our photo contest is getting very popular.  The theme was "friendship" and the entries certainly showed friendship; it must have been difficult to choose just five winners.  Thank you to Mike from Greyhound Placement Service for judging the contest.  The winning photos will be on our website.  There were five winners: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and two “Honorable Mentions.”  They received ribbons and the first place winner (Martine) received a beautiful basket filled with lots of doggie items – thank you to Barbara for donating this. Check out the winners here!

There were gifts given out for the top two pledge collectors.  First place was Marie Guide and second place was Gigi Wang.  This is what it’s all about - getting donations so we can continue to help the dogs.

Donna Joseph, GSRNE Photographer, assisted by 10 year old volunteer Emily, managed a portrait photography booth again this year.   We also had volunteers taking photos during the day of all our activities and some of these photos are now on here now.

Towards the end of the day we played games - Best Trick, Loudest Bark,  and the Rally Spoon Game.  We had some more games planned but everyone was pretty tired.

Thank you to EVERYONE involved in the dog walk: the Planning Committee, volunteers who helped throughout the day, raffle (and other) donors, all the people that helped us in so many other ways – check out our original ‘dog walk page’ on the website for more info on some of the people who contributed - please excuse us if we didn't include you - you can email us and we’ll add your name asap.

Thank you to Eleanor and everyone at beautiful Borderland State Park. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/bord.htm

The weather was gorgeous, and it was a FUN day.  It was great to see everyone with their dogs – some of the members we see at most of our events, and some new members - finally had a chance to meet some of you that we’ve only ‘met’ on our email list – and lots of well-behaved German Shepherd Dogs.  We are happy to say there were some other breeds/mixed breeds represented too.

We have more photos of the dog walk here.

*****Next year’s walk will be on Saturday, October 7, 2006.*****

Save the date!
