Agility Demonstration

Run Safe - Have Fun - Run Fast - Run Clean

The M & M Team (Murray and Martine) will once again run the agility demo at this year's Walk 'n' Wag All Breed Dog Walk.  Like last year, we'll have regular jumps, tire jumps, weave poles, tunnels and pause table. So far the members of this year's agility demo team are Martine Meijering's The Amazing Murray, almost 7 year old Dutch Shepherd mix and Murray’s ‘brother’, Denver, a 3 year old ’I only do tunnels’ Old English Sheepdog. Also included in the team are Sandy Ingmanson's Charley, an 11 year old Old English Sheepdog and Jennifer Ng-Daly’s Bear, 5 year old Chocolate Lab & Nancy Blake's Remy, a 6 year old Australian Shepherd.

Murray Flies Over a Jump at the Nationals

MURRAY - my agility queen, who went from being afraid of jumping over a stick on the ground to being a jumping fool.  Murray competes in CPE (Canine Performance Events) and NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) agility and wishes her handler would remember the courses as well as she does.  Murray absolutely loves agility and she knows when she had a good run – she walks out of the ring all proud, smiling, wagging her tail like crazy.  She sure has come a long way from the little rat, picked up almost 7 years ago, to the Amazing Murray.

Bear Easily Makes it Through the Tire Jump

BEAR - As a puppy, Bear was afraid of everything.  It was suggested he try agility classes to help build his confidence.  When he began, he would not even climb up on a table.  Now at the age of 5, he barrels through a course flying over jumps and speeding through the weave poles loving every minute.  Bear competes in CPE (Canine Performance Events) and NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council).

Charley flies through the weave poles

CHARLEY-Too Good to Be True - a member of the team for the last 2 years, is Sandy's sixth rescue. They are now competing at Levels 2 and 3 in CPE!  Charley also passed her CGC and TDI (Therapy Dogs International). They visit local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Charley, like Denver, is a part of the NEOESR Roadshow and she just celebrated her 11th birthday.

UPDATE: unfortunately Charley won't be able to be at the Walk 'n' Wag due to serious health issues. We wish you a speedy and complete recovery, Charley!

Denver coming out of the tunnel

DENVER is also a rescue from NEOESR.  He completed his 'beginning obedience' and 'continuing education', passed his Canine Good Citizen test and, when not busy with agility and K9 nose work training, educates people in responsible dog ownership at NEOESR’s Roadshow events.  Besides being stubborn, Denver is deaf in his left ear, which makes it more of a challenge for Martine to work him on her right as he tries to get back to her left side.  Denver lives with Murray, the boss of the household, Edgar and Thomas.

Remy clears the jump bar easily

REMY is named after Jerry Remy, the current sports announcer for the Red Sox. Remy loves to go running in the woods, playing frisbee, adores agility, and is a true flyball fanatic, as you can hear him barking all the way up the lane. Additional titles Remy has earned are NADAC S-NAC,S NJC, S TN-N, S-TG-N, S TG-N, S WV-N,O-NCC, OAC, O TN-O, in ASCA JS-N, GS-N. Remy has just started competing in frisbee and has taken 1st place in Novice toss & fetch both times out. In short he is a big momma's boy, and will do anything he can to please her. Remy resides at home with his big sister Penny, (a red merle Aussie) who reminds him frequently that he may have titles but she is the queen of the house.

Bella loves the A-frame

BELLA - Danielle Holmes, Bella's owner, tells us Bella is a rescue from the SPCA of Upstate NY, she has been competing in CPE for two years and has just started Level 3. She loves going to classes and competing and really enjoys herself on the course! She can be super fast or really slow- It's all up to Bella on how she feels like running that day.

Millie will be there learning what it's all about

MILLIE, Danielle's other dog, has just started agility classes and has really been coming along. Her first classes she was really shy and afraid of all the people and the obstacles. Now she'll let people hold her and pat her, and she loves going through the tunnels! Millie may start competing in a year or two, but she enjoys going to Bella's competitions now to get used to everything.

Peg Shea’s BEA - I found Bea on line at Petfinder.com and adopted her from Canine’s Breed Rescue of NH in December of 2006.  She is a Border Collie or Aussie mix and fairly shy but she loves to work and goes like crazy when I ask her to.  I started Bea’s obedience training when she 5 months old.  Mostly I just wanted Bea to have good manners and to have the freedom of a well-behaved dog earns.

The http://beasbackyard.com website is a result of our efforts.  I like to think I give training a lot of time but really... Bea’s temperament and herding dog genes have made her an exceptional dog to train, play and live with.  In agility we compete in NADAC.  Please note:  http://beasbackyard.com/ provided all the agility equipment used in the demo today.

Please make sure to stop by the Demo and watch these amazing dogs show off their stuff! Congratulations to all of them on their hard work and accomplishments! If anyone is interested in learning more about agility here are some of the agility competition venues: CPE (Canine Performance Events), NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council), AKC (American Kennel Club), USDAA (US Dog Ability Association), TDAA (Teacup Dogs Agility Assoc.), and DOCNA (Dogs on Course in N. America).  If you’d like to try agility with your dog - Sandy, Jenn or Martine will help you out.
