Frankie is an affectionate boy and
enjoys being with his people; when out for his walk, he likes to
carry something in his mouth, whether it’s a stick, a hat or a
ball. He’s an active 3-year-old and is fast and agile when playing
outside.
Living with another young German
Shepherd, Frankie has lots of opportunities for running and playing
in the fenced yard. That exercise, in addition to daily walks with
his Foster Dad, give him the exercise he needs so that he’s content
to stretch out in the evenings and keep his people company when
they’re ready to relax and read or watch TV.
We don’t know why Frankie was in a
shelter at some point; but he was adopted from there by a couple who
were not able to keep him and who contacted GSRNE on his behalf.
During the evaluation, we saw that Frankie is initially,
uncomfortable meeting strangers and will back away and duck his
head. In the early days of foster care, he attached himself to his
foster Mom and took longer to become comfortable with his foster
Dad; he would submissively urinate if his collar was touched so a
leash could be attached.
Thanks to the patience and
understanding he was shown, Frankie is now happy and enthusiastic
with both his foster parents and will jump in excitement when he
comes out of his crate in the mornings. He’s met visitors in their
home and will greet them once they are seated; but he’ll startle and
bark and back up if they stand and move around. He’s a sensitive
boy and will need time, again, to become comfortable in a new home.
Frankie does very well living with
another dog but would also be happy as an only dog as long as he
gets enough exercise and mental stimulation from his people. He
walks nicely on leash and is steady and calm around other dogs or
passing cars. He can also walk by people easily, as long as they
don’t stop and try to pet him; if that happens, he’ll back away.
Frankie is a very loving and loyal
companion and will need a little more time and patience than a dog
who has had an easier start in life. His adopter will need good
leadership skills so Frankie will be able to trust and rely on
him/her. |
