Kasey is “the perfect companion”
according to her foster home. This black and tan GSD has endeared
herself to her foster mom in the short time she has been with GSRNE.
She is a loving and attentive GSD that seeks to please and adapts well
to changes in routine.Kasey
was brought up from the south by a New England shelter. She was
originally adopted out to a family here in New England. The family
was immediately taken by Kasey’s calm and gentle demeanor and her
desire to be by her family’s side. However, it did not take Kasey’s
family long to notice that she experienced noticeable discomfort when
their young children sought to cuddle with her and placed weight on
her hips. Wanting to find a good home for this gorgeous GSD, her
adoptive family turned to GSRNE for help.
Kasey has been diagnosed with hip
dysplasia, a condition very common to GSDs. Kasey is on a Metacam, a
medication to help her dysplasia and her foster mother monitors
Kasey’s weight very closely to guard against any unnecessary
additional strain on her hips. Overall, Kasey is responding to her
weight and medication treatment very well. She loves to go for walks,
but will let you know when she has had enough and is happy to return
home and curl up on her bed.
Kasey also makes sure to communicate
with her foster mom by placing a paw on her knee. When Kasey comes
over and gives paw, her foster mom knows that this lovely GSD is
indicating that she needs to go out or would like a refill of her
water bowl. Kasey also loves to play ball and thoroughly enjoys being
groomed. She will sit very contentedly while you brush out her
gorgeous fur.
Kasey is all GSD when it comes to
alerting her household of approaching visitors or signaling the
appearance of a squirrel or other small animal on a walk. She alerts
her “person” to the presence of other dogs while on a walk, but she
has not had a great deal of opportunity to interact with other
canines.
Due to her hip condition, Kasey would
do best in a home without young children and few stairs. She is an
attentive companion and wants nothing more than to be by her person’s
side, but Kasey needs a household that will be cognizant of her hip
sensitivity.
Kasey is a wonderful dog that has so
much to give. While she does have limitations due to her hip
dysplasia, her condition is easily managed. Any adopter will be
rewarded ten-fold for the investment they make in this wonderful GSD.
